The The Leatherwood Loop is a gorgeous trail, but it is narrow and steep with lots of exposed roots and rocks. Parental note: If you have youngsters, this is a great park, but I don't recommend taking the trails unless you have a carrier and are sure-footed. When the road turns to gravel, you have arrived. Go about 6 miles until you see the brown National Forest sign that says 'Fires Creek.' The picnic area is an additional 2 miles down this road.
